About Me
Current role: Chair, Waitematā Local Board.
Standing for: Waitematā & Gulf ward Councillor.
Qualifications: BSc, MBA, Grad Dip. Bus - Dispute Resolution
Professional background:
I'm an experienced local government leader, educator, and advocate with a background spanning governance, education, and community development. As Chair of the Waitematā Local Board, I've led key portfolios including transport, parks and open spaces, and the natural environment—working closely with Auckland Council and its CCOs to deliver real outcomes for our communities.
Prior to entering local government, I worked as a secondary school teacher and careers coordinator, taught Biology, Science, Business and Economics, and coordinated national advocacy for gender equality through the UN Women's Empowerment Principles. I've also held education leadership roles internationally, including as an educational advisor role in Abu Dhabi.
With a strong foundation in stakeholder engagement, policy, and public service, I bring a collaborative and practical approach to building a city that's sustainable, connected, and inclusive.
Family: I'm happily married, and between my husband and me, we have 4 adult children and one grandchild.
Interests: I'm a keen sportswoman with a love for the outdoors. I enjoy running, cycling, swimming, skiing, and kayaking. In 2023, I completed the Kathmandu Coast to Coast (2-day individual event) and the Taupō 70.3 Ironman (individual) – two of my bucket list dreams. In the early 2000's, I had the honour of representing New Zealand at the Body Shaping World Championships.
I have spent many years as a strong advocate for women, including for gender pay equity.
Resident and big fan of the central city: I love our City and the many great events/entertainment options within walking distance – as well as the ferry terminal that's right on our doorstep, puttting Waiheke and the Gulf within easy reach. I speak from experience and from the heart about what makes our city great! I'm really excited about the opening of the CRL in 2026, this will be a huge boost for the CBD and also be a fun experience to find new places to go and explore.
My ethos: I'm a passionate advocate for the people and places of Waitematā, with a strong track record of local leadership, collaboration, and community connection. As Chair of the Waitematā Local Board, I've worked alongside residents, businesses, and Council partners to drive positive change—championing better transport, greener public spaces, and more inclusive, sustainable development. I believe in getting the basics right: delivering core infrastructure projects, improving public transport, and ensuring our neighbourhoods are clean, safe, and well-serviced. With the right foundations in place, I believe Auckland can truly become a world-class city. I bring both governance experience and a people-first approach, grounded in real relationships and a deep commitment to fairness, transparency, and action. I'm ready to keep serving our communities as a strong, trusted voice at the Council table.
I stand for progress – not stagnation!
I stand for action – not procrastination or platitudes!
